GOD DAMN is this young lady talented! Since the beginning of UPstar. Music almost a year ago, Royale Lynn was one of the first artists I had on my radar. Traditional Country Music at heart, filled with some fiddle and swagger. As you dig deeper into each song, you discover Royale Lynn's flawless ability to tell a story and her top notch skills with a pen. Is Royale Lynn going to be a household name in Music City? Well I'll tell you one thing... if this superstar ain't signed by the time I move to Nashville (3 years) then I'm just gonna close up shop. That's how much I believe in her.
Get To Know Royale Lynn
"I am from a small town called Aylmer in southern Ontario, Canada! There was never a dull moment on the farm growing up, and I loved every minute of it. I truly grew into the person I am today from the lessons I learned on that farm. I learned how to cowboy up at a very young age! I got into music when I was just a young girl, I loved to sing and my parents got me my first guitar. That is when I knew I wanted to sing for a living. I never in a million years thought that my dream would come true and that I would be here in Nashville pursuing music. I moved to Nashville in 2015 and never turned back. This is my favorite place in the world."
Not only does she have one of the coolest names in Country Music, but Royale Lynn is also taking the genre by storm with new single "Texas Hold 'Em"
Wait for it... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Right off the bat you get a dose of Royal Lynn's elite vocals mixed with a mellow vibe. From the title, you are probably telling yourself "holy shit this girl really likes playing poker". But ladies and gentlemen, as you dig deeper into each line of the song, your brain explodes and you realize this ain't about gambling! This title is a witty play on words... ya get it... Texas... hold him. A super relatable song that hits deep - no matter who it was in the relationship, sometimes you have to let go. Whether it's right away, a few months or even years down the line, you eventually get that closure and want the best for that person. And if you're the one who breaks it off, you hope that one special someone can mend their heart quickly and without too much pain. A clever song y'all need to hear.
Inspiration behind "Texas Hold 'Em"
Written By: Royale Lynn, Lydia Dall & Hunter Wolkonowski
Produced By: Aslan Freeman
"Texas Hold ‘Em stemmed from a personal place for me. I thought “What if Texas had to hold him, because I couldn’t anymore.” It was one of the most personal songs I have ever written and I got to do it with my best gals. I had gone through something similar to the story, but I was on the opposite end of things!"
Q & A With Royale Lynn
Q: Who are the biggest influences in your life that help you chase your dream in Country Music?
A: "My family has been so supportive since day one. They have really encouraged me to chase my dreams, no matter how big those dreams are. I have always been a dreamer, but without them I wouldn’t have been given the tools to be successful. They helped me enroll in local singing competitions and came to every single show/music lesson along the way. I actually owe a lot of my success to them for giving me the opportunity to do music in the first place. I have been incredibly blessed in my musical journey to have such supportive people in my corner!"
Q: What is your favorite thing about Nashville?
A: "Nashville is my favorite place on earth. I have fallen in love with the culture, the food and the music. One of my favorite places to eat is Bar Taco in 12 south. I am a sucker for Mexican food! I also love that you can find live music in every bar across town. And the talent will blow you out of the water. One of my favorite streets to drive down is Music Row… there have been so many dreams that have come true along that road!!"
Q: What was it like growing up in Canada and transitioning to life in Nashville? What's something you miss about home?
A: "I remember the exact day that I packed my truck up and headed to Nashville for the first time. It was the longest drive I had done- since I was living in Ottawa, Ontario at the time. I was so excited to see what “Music City” was like. I had grown up in a small town and really hadn’t seen anywhere with so much culture that solely pertained to music. The transition was easier than I had thought. I really do miss Tim Horton’s though! When I am up in Canada, I am at Timmies at least once a day! My freezer here in Nashville is full of their coffee!"
Q: If you could go back 5-10 years, what advice would you give your younger self?
A: "If I could go back 10 years I would tell myself that my ambition would fuel a fire in my soul and help me achieve goals that I could only dream of. Don’t let anyone ever tell you, you can’t do something. I think that back then I was always so doubtful of actually living this type of life.. It wasn’t until 5 years ago that I put all my eggs in one basket and made the move! Honestly if you told me 10 years ago that I would be living in Nashville and touring across America, I wouldn’t have believed ya!"
