Wise Words: Royale Lynn Breaks Down Lyrics To Single "His & Hers"

I have been a big fan of Royale Lynn's music since I heard her single "No Saddle". She continues to put out quality songs that display next level song writing intertwined with that traditional country sound. Royale Lynn was named one of UPstar. Music's "Artists to Watch in 2021". Her latest single "His & Hers", released on May 7th, has surpassed over 100,000 streams on all platforms and is now over half a million views on Tik Tok. "His & Hers" was written by Royale Lynn, Joybeth Taylor and Hunter Girl. It was produced by Brad Wagner. Royale Lynn is kicking off UPstar. Music's "Wise Words" series with her single "His & Hers", as rising artists and songwriters break down some of the lyrics that make their song special. This gives each artist the opportunity to explain what different lines and verses mean as well as how they came to be.

I don’t blame him, it’s my mistake

“This pre- chorus line may seem small and insignificant, but to me this line sets up the entire story. When I brought this idea to Joybeth and Hunter, I wanted to tap into the emotion of a traveling musician. Since we are constantly on the road and love sometimes seems to fall through the cracks, it’s when you're constantly trying to get to the step career wise. It seemed like the perfect way to set up the chorus and tie the story together!”

It’s his and her name in a heart, carved in the tree in his backyard

"I remember when we came up with this lyric. Someone said it and I was like- we HAVE to incorporate it somewhere! It kinda hit home for me because it's a representation of something that’s supposed to last forever. Even as the tree grows, the names continue to grow old with it. Using it as the first line of the chorus really introduces the hurt that this woman is feeling after losing her world to someone else."

Got it looking like my whole world, is his & hers

“This is probably my favorite lyric within the song. When we solidified the hook in the writing room, everything clicked. The idea of it being “His and someone else’s” rather than “His and mine” was the perfect way to spin this idea…"

“I had so much fun writing this song with Joybeth Taylor & Hunter Girl… when I got the idea, I knew exactly who I wanted to write it with! The thing I love most about writing songs is the storytelling aspect of it and this one was so much fun to create. The response this song has gotten has been incredible.. I love that we created something that other can relate to.” - Royale Lynn
